Hexie Farm (蟹农场): The Sit-in

For his latest contribution to the Hexie Farm CDT series, cartoonist  comments on the recent protests against censorship centered around the Southern Weekly newspaper. Xi Jinping is pictured walking a tightrope across the gulf between the “harmonious society” espoused by Hu Jintao, and the “rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” that Xi has made a predominant theme of his administration so far. As he maneuvers the dangerous journey, he is almost thrown off balance by the protesting netizens, depicted as angry birds.
