Evan Osnos: The High Bar of The New Chinese Dream

In an interview with Asia Society’s Dan Washburn, The New Yorker’s Evan Osnos gives his thoughts on the nature and implications of the “Chinese Dream”, “the first Chinese political slogan that makes sense in a long time.” He compares it with its predecessors and its American counterpart, and explains why it may be “a more powerful idea than even Xi Jinping thought”, as some Chinese interpret it as a promise whose fulfillment would require political reform.
