The Xi administration’s long running anti-corruption campaign, which finally netted former security chief Zhou Yongkang late last month, has been noted to have hampered public desire for coveted careers in Party politics. Beside intense disciplinary oversight, there are quite a few other reasons that make a career in Chinese civil service treacherous.
