The Global Village of Beijing, an environmental organization, is advocating for Chinese citizens to live a “simpler” life – including reverting to the traditional practice of bike riding instead of buying more cars – in order to slow down the rapid environmental degradation in the country. The article states that: “Nine out of ten of the world’s most polluted cities are in China. According to the World Bank, air pollution costs the Chinese economy $25bn a year in health expenditure and lost labour productivity – largely because of the use of coal.”
