Bloomberg: China Leader, Taiwan Nationalist Chief Hold Meeting

China President Hu Jintao called Taiwan opposition Nationalist Party Chairman Lien Chan a “friend” and said their landmark meeting today shows the determination of the political rivals to forge peaceful ties.

Lien and the Nationalists are “friends from afar,” Hu, 62, said today as the two prepared to hold private talks. Their meeting shows the Chinese “have the wisdom” to resolve cross- Strait differences, he said.
