China Shuts 3 Companies Over Safety of Products – David Barboza

After a series of food safety scandals, the Chinese government cracked down on tainted food. On Friday, China closed down three food companies which have been involved in producing poisoned food. From The New York Times:

The Chinese government moved on Friday to quell international concerns about the safety of its exports, announcing that it had revoked the licenses of three companies that made poisonous ingredients later used ” with lethal results ” in medicine and pet food.

One of the three, the Taixing Glycerine Factory, sold an ingredient laced with a potent poison, diethylene glycol, that was later mixed into cold medicine, killing at least 100 people in Panama over the last year….[Full Text]
