Former President Lee Teng-hui openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the poor administration performance of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, saying that “we ourselves are being punished for electing the wrong person as [president].”
Lee made the remarks during a seminar with young people at the Grand Taipei Hotel yesterday afternoon. Although he didn’t identify who is the wrong person, it is clear to all that the person refers to President Chen Shui-bian.
Lee told the participants that the biggest threat to Taiwan’s democratization lies in the fact that those who participated in the democratization process of Taiwan have began to oppose democracy, and those who have completed the democratization have run counter to democracy. “That is to say the former opposition party has started to decay after taking power.” [Full Text]
