Chinese opera is far from dead, at least not according to Cantonese opera maestro Ding Fan (丁凡).
“When I first started out, I was told that eventually Chinese opera will die out and no one will be watching me perform anymore,” he said. “But here I am 30 years later, still going strong. If it were true that Chinese opera was dying, I would have retired a long time ago.”
Ding is the principal actor of the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Academy First Troupe, arguably one of the most renowned Cantonese opera troupes in the world. [Full Text]
