China Denies Report North Korean Leader Kim Jong Il Will Visit – Allen T. Cheng

China denied reports North Korean leader Kim Jong Il will visit the country to discuss the possibility of resuming the six-nation talks aimed at dismantling the reclusive state’s nuclear program.

“As far as I know there is no such arrangement for him to visit,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a briefing today in Beijing.

Kim may cross the border into China today, South Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo newspaper reported. The visit would coincide with that of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, who is scheduled to arrive in Beijing later today. [Full Text]
