Five Chinese lawyers and legal scholars failed to attend the conference “Rights Protection (Weiquan) Lawyers and the Rule of Law in China” held in the University of Hong Kong, Sing Tao reported.
Johannes Chan, Dean of the Faculty of Law of HKU, read out a letter written by a mainland legal scholar who decided not visit Hong Kong: “Just when I bought the air ticket to Hong Kong, the leader (È¢ÜÂغ) [of my university] told me that the conference was organised by Fandong (ÂèçÂä®; hostile) organisation. He requested me better not to attend.”
The conference was co-organised by the Law Faculty and the China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group. [Full Text]
