Following a brief hiatus, veteran China blog Danwei has relaunched on a new trajectory as “a web magazine about China”:
Since 2003, we have been translating, reporting and commenting on the Chinese media and Internet.
When we started, there were very few English language publications about China. There were few information sources with any depth of China coverage.
At that time, reading only English reports was a very poor way to understand the vibrant, sometimes anarchic, sometimes highly repressed world of Chinese media.
This is no longer the case. There is now a wealth of information about China in English available online, from translation blogs by students to the increased coverage in major Western newspapers.
So we have decided to change our focus. We’re relaunching on Danwei.com. We will publish periodic issues based around a theme, rather than daily news updates.
